What exactly is OMSW?

OMSW is a province wide day-long conference designed to introduce first year medical students to useful clinical skills, and provide them with lectures designed to inform and/or inspire from some of the most respected people in medicine. Hosted by different Ontario medical schools annually, OMSW is geared to facilitate professional networking between medical students of all years and schools allowing for the experiences of this unique education to be shared. Every OMSW tries to instill learning in a fun, non-threatening environment to gain tangible clinical skills while meeting your colleagues and this year is no different.

When is OMSW?

OMSW 2019 takes place from September 27th to 29th. On the evening of Friday September 27th, attendess will arrive in Toronto and check into their hotel. At this time conference lanyards may be picked up. Opening festivities will be planned for the evening. Saturday September 28th is a full day of various workshops, speaker sessions, and expo booths, featuring the best teachers that the University of Toronto has to offer, and resources that any medical student will find useful. The day will conclude with a formal dinner and more social events through the night. You can find more detailed information under the Schedule tab.

Where is OMSW?

OMSW this year will take place at various locations throughout the downtown core of Toronto. All attendess will be staying at the Hilton Toronto Hotel. The conference sessions will be taking place at the Hilton Toronto Hotel, St. Michael's Hospital and Toronto General Hospital.

How much do tickets cost?

Hotel tickets are $235 and non-hotel tickets are $185 (48 tickets available to UofT students only). A 3.5% credit card processing fee will be added to your ticket price. The OMSW organizing committee has worked hard to keep the ticket prices as low as possible by utilizing any available deals and subsidizing costs with sponsorship. The event is not-for-profit and the budget is designed to break even with a small buffer for unexpected costs.

Will I get to choose which sessions I can attend?

During the registration process, you will be asked to rank speaker and workshop sessions. Based on your rankings, we will try to get all of the attendees the sessions that they want. Once assigned, attendees will not be able go to other sessions due to space constraints.

How many delegates will there be?

OMSW 2019 will have space for around 600 attendees this year, with some restrictions to the number of attendees from each medical school campus to ensure diversity.

How do I get to OMSW?

Transportation to OMSW is organized at each school by the VP External of the school's student council. Please contact them for more information. OMSW tickets do NOT include transportation.

Who I am sharing a hotel room with at OMSW?

After ticket sales, a set number of hotel rooms are assigned to each of the schools based on the number of attendees. You will be sharing your room with up to three other attendees from your school. The room allocation process will be organized internally at each school by the VP External of the school's student council. Please contact them for more information.
